Why Choose To Be an LLC Over a Nonprofit
If you watch media reports and feel-good stories, you might think that celebrities and other wealthy people are throwing money at nonprofits everywhere. Like Wolf of Wall Street levels of excess, but for organizations who are doing great things.
Sadly, that’s not the case.
These reports and stories skew the reality by making it seem that nonprofits have access to endless capital thanks to these gracious and benevolent celebrities. But the truth is that it’s incredibly challenging for nonprofits to get a foot in the door with any of these big-name “givers.” They tend to have their own agendas and desired outcomes attached to any donations they make.
It is precisely this problem that led us to establish The Mermaid’s Garden as an LLC rather than a not-for-profit organization. To make the concept come to life sustainably and respectfully, we need to have access to funding.
By choosing to go the LLC route, we opened the doors to potential heart-led investors who are not in it for name recognition or media appearances. Instead, we can align with leaders and decision-makers who see the value of investing in our farm and retreat space for the good it can do.
Is that you? No investment or donation is too small, so if you feel ready to support the vision and movement of The Mermaid’s Garden, we’d be so grateful. You can also help us move the project forward by shopping our online store. Grab some goodies for yourself while making a difference!
Why Choose To Be an LLC?
There is a widespread myth that nonprofits do the most good while corporations do the most evil. Sadly, some corporate behavior has made this look all too true at times.
The reality is that we can make a difference and be a successful corporation. We can choose to incorporate as a business rather than a nonprofit and still do tremendous good in the world. It all comes down to staying true to our mission and values as we build The Mermaid’s Garden.
Here are a few reasons we decided to bypass the nonprofit route:
We wanted access to funding and investors without relying on grants and donations.
We recognize the importance of small businesses in the health of our local economy.
We want to reinvest our profits into helping nonprofits and other small businesses make a difference in the world.
Come Join the Journey!
At The Mermaid’s Garden, we are radically reimagining the narrative around food and healing. Through our aquaculture farm and inclusive retreat space, we provide an experience that honors the land and the people who inhabit it.
We recognize that our bodies and souls need and deserve safe spaces to be nourished and healed, and we seek to provide exactly that.
To make it happen, though, we need your support. If you are ready to invest in this vision or know someone who would be a great match for us, let’s connect. We’d love to chat and explain how we’re changing the world from our space in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
